Beyond the Classroom
Small Heath School has a growing reputation for the range of sporting activities it offers its pupils and an outstanding reputation as a centre of cricketing excellence.
Sport plays a full part in the life of pupils and is an essential element in the education we offer.
The excellent facilities incorporate a fully floodlit artificial pitch with practice areas, running track and cricket nets, sports hall, squash courts, weight training gym, access to a large indoor swimming pool and multi purpose playing area to the rear of our Muntz Street site. A full range of extra-curricular sporting activities takes place throughout the year at lunchtimes and after school. Each year, pupils gain county representatives honours and past pupils have progressed into professional county cricket.
Outdoor Education is part of our Year 8 curriculum and every pupil has the opportunity to take part in a range of team building and leadership activities.
Life at Small Heath School focuses on the 'family' approach and pupils have excellent facilities to enjoy and a wide range of additional learning opportunities.
Our library and resource centres are open before school, at break and
lunchtimes and after school, where they host our 'study clubs'. There are social areas across the school where pupils can sit and talk with friends and enjoy each other's company. Dining facilities on both sites provide a range of meals at lunchtimes and host our breakfast clubs - 'Breakfast.com'.
Additional learning opportunities are available everyday after school and at weekends. Extra study in almost every subject and recreational facilities are offered together with a variety of clubs and societies. Music, drama, art, technology and sports clubs are particularly popular.
