Our School
Small Heath School is an inner ring, split site,
co-educational 11-18 comprehensive school.
It was established in 1983 by amalgamation as
part of the reorganisation of secondary education
in Birmingham.
In 1994, the school was one of the first in
the country to gain Technology College status
and opened its own Sixth Form Centre.

Small Heath School and Sixth Form Centre is
a Foundation school.
One of the aims of the school is to provide
the best possible educational environment and
resources for our pupils. There is a continuing
programme of development across both of our
sites and we are proud of the facilities we
are able to offer our pupils.
Sport has benefited from new outside playing
facilities including a magnificent all
weather playing area. Funding for this initiative
was gained through a successful Lottery bid.

The school is on two sites, 'Upper School' in
Muntz Street and 'Lower School' in
Waverley Road. They are a little over half a
mile apart and buses transport our younger pupils
between sites.
The Muntz Street premises have an open, landscaped
frontage. They were opened
in 1978 as a multi-use school, public library,
Community and Leisure Centre. The facilities
are heavily used throughout the year. It is
an attractive site and a focal
point for the community.
Lower School pupils (Years 7-9) use the premises
for science, technology, physical
education, art, drama and music only. The Waverley
Road site was opened in 1892 and is a Grade
2 listed building of considerable character.
It is the 'school
by the park' and is used solely for classroom
based activities for pupils in Years 7-10 and
is the base for Lower School pupils.
Both sites have excellent ICT facilities, libraries,
resource centre's and have their own dining facilities
where halal food is always available.
We warmly welcome visitors to experience the
atmosphere of care and learning at our school.
