Small Heath School, together with FOSHS sponsored the building of the school in the earthquake area of Bararkot Pakistan in 2006.
The opening ceremony was on the16 October 2008 to which Mr. Slough and the chair of the FOSHS committee were invited.
Due to a heavy work load they were unable to attend. However, Mr. and Mrs. Ahmed both members of the committee and Small Heath
staff members
represented the school and FOSHS at the opening ceremony. They left England on 12th October 2008 and returned on 21st October 2008.
The journey was indeed an epic one. The school is situated in a very remote mountainous region of Pakistan and was not without risk.
It took Mr. and Mrs. Ahmed 12 hours by car to arrive at Bararkot. The ceremony was a grand affair with the local MP and the
Pakistani TV channels and newspapers present. The school children put on a wonderful show
welcoming the guests with songs and nasheeds. They also put on plays and comedy sketches.
It was great to see that the children now have a building in which they will have their lessons where as before the opening
they were being taught in tents!
Our visit to the school has emphasised the importance of long-term charitable aid
to support the growing need of education in this area of Barakot. It was evident from our visit there that the assistance given
by the community, school and FOSHS is immeasurable and having a multiplier effect going on that community in a variety of ways.
FOSHS and Small Heath School have together pledged to maintain staff salaries to the amount of £3000 a year for 5 years.
We need your help to sustain this effort.
