Academic Pathways & Courses

ACADEMIC PATHWAYS YOU CAN FOLLOW AT SMALL HEATH SIXTH FORM AND HOW TO MAKE YOUR CHOICE

Route 1: Choose 3 different A level qualifications.

Route 2: Choose BTEC qualifications such as a course that is worth the equivalent of 2 or 3 A level qualifications.

Route 3: Choose a mixture of A level and BTEC qualifications such as one A level qualification and one BTEC qualification (worth the equivalent of 2 A levels).

Route 4: Choose from Route 1, 2 or 3 and add an EPQ (Extended Project Qualification) that will enhance your application and is valued by Russell Group universities and employers.

NB

•Routes 1, 2, 3 & 4 require a minimum of 5 A*-C grades at GCSE or equivalent including GCSE English and Maths. Acceptance for subjects is governed by individual requirements as explained on individual subject information pages.

•All routes should be chosen after carefully looking at the GCSE grades required to access the relevant Level 3 qualifications.

•To ensure you make the right choices, you should research and consider possible future university pathways and Level 3 subjects appropriate to securing potential higher education courses. This knowledge will support the interview process.
